The Past 2 weeks i have been doing my own personal study's, and have discovered that our generation, 18+ may be the last generation to keep hold the computer gaming genre

It seems that people have now moved onto console games. such as Cod4, and Halo 3, FPS ( with A CONTROLLER!!) this is madness. after speaking with hundreds of young males and females through webcam chats via stickam, i've discovered that the majority just can't afford a good computer, and prefer there joystick over a mouse and keyboard.. Ladies and GENTELman this is an outrage.. THEse KIDS believe that halo was the first great FPS, they bleieve, that pc's are to hard to understand.. WTF!! (these kid never had ut99, never heard of Counterstrike. i come into chats looking for cod4 players, and guess what ITS ALL xbox 360 PEOPLE!!, .. this is very depressing

What makes it even worse, the next unreal engine is being geared specifically to consoles!!!!.. they wont' bother making it for PC games for at least a year after its released.. WTF is the world coming to.. EA is geared towards consoles, even BLIZZARD who now owns COD4, is getting ready for there next gen relases to be for console..

if anyone knows how to fix this huge problem, plz post it now.. b/c understand this, all SKILL is goign to be left with us, and when we die noone will be there to teach others.. this is a sad time, and will be getting worse and worse as the years progress

PC gaming isn't dying out. What's happening is that games in general are becoming more and more mainstream, but that growth is mostly in consoles. It's making PC gaming look less popular when in fact it's as popular as it's always been, it's just that console gaming is growing faster.

I don't know any true hardcore PC gamers that have switched to console gaming. The guys that have switched simply didn't belong in PC gaming to begin with.

hutz put that well PC gaming has always been a minority....but those console guys never really got to experience counterstrike or bioshock or UT or duke nukem or ne other real FPS....we should be proud we r playin those games and laugh at them for calling themselves gamers

p.s. i miss my hutz u need to ring for us every once in a while....which means u need to be on xfire ;)

Also along the same lines of what Hutz was saying, I have been hearing for the last 12 years or so about how PC Gaming was dying out. Simply not true. It is still here and still will be. It has a great market and that isnt going away, nor will the companies as long as we keep buying games.

For 5 years I listened to how PC games would be dead, then about 5 after that it was apparent someone was wrong. Console designers would like you to think that is the case, but you shouldnt be worried.

Consoles bring a different aspect to multiplayer, it is the "party style" game where you can have a group all together and play. I like PC better because I can find my groups easier, and play with more, almost all the time. You got consoles trying to imitate PC with its network capabilities, which honestly are lacking in my opinion.

The funny thing is that this comes up every time a solid batch of consoles games come out. Yet we still strive to this day as the focal point for a lot of video game sales. Hell the majority of the magazines are focused on hardcore gamers (usually pc).

I will say though that there have been a lot of console ports to PC lately but every single one of those has failed in sales so I maybe they will catch the hint.

I was reading a NextGen magazine from like 8-9 years ago that had an article "Death of PC Gaming?". So yeah, every time a new console generation approaches, more and more people think the PC is dying. In reality, it's always going to have a solid installed base because of its openness as a platform - you aren't going to find mods, dedicated servers, IRC, or Ventrilo on XBox anytime soon, and it's those things that keep PC gamers tied closely as a unified community instead of as a bunch of loners in front of their TV sets.

Another huge problem is that console controllers haven't evolved past the PS1 era of dual analog. Sure, back in the day it was nifty to have a crude way of playing FPS's on a console, but how come Nintendo is the only company to make a controller that's actually good for shooters (and pointing, like for strategy games and RPGs)? I figured that by now we'd see the right analog stick replaced with a trackball or something that can be used to aim/point properly, but apparently console makers can stick with the status quo and woo players with superior graphics (http://pc.ign.com/articles/834/834614p1.html) and plug 'n' play ease of use (http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/gaming/xbox-360-failure-rate-30-says-retailers-271487.php) in lieu of half-decent controls.

I don't think that PC games will ever die. I mean take a look at these "indie" games, coming out. Audiosurf, for one, has done TREMENDOUSLY well on it's PC platform, and the developer, WHO'S LIKE 20, says the best way to start is on the PC platform. He himself even said that PC's not dead, it's only just begun.

And plus, mass effect is coming in may, and halo makes me vomit.
