MW2 won't have campaign co-op, but they're putting in an arcade-like mode with standalone challenges that you can play with a friend. I've read a bunch of rumors about what kinds of challenges there will be:
-Standard run 'n' gun levels: timed and elimination
-Defense: defend against increasingly difficult waves of enemies. Includes juggernaut enemies in bomb suits that you have to kill with .50cal or magnum shots.
-Best of all: AC-130 mode. One player pilots the gun, and the other player is on the ground calling out targets!
This mode sounds like a blast, but two things disappoint me. First is that I want a two-player campaign mode. I don't care that IW heavily scripts the levels for a single player. Games like Gears of War and Resident Evil 5 were designed for two players, and they're fun for both single player and co-op. This is a squad based shooter, so why no two player campaign? The other is that special ops is clearly designed as a story-less arcade mode, so why not support 4 players for that?
Regardless, I'm thinking that the single player campaign will be the last mode I play. I'll be playing multi with you guys the first few week or two of release, and going through spec ops with my brother during any multi downtime.
Here's a video of the spec ops level "Breach and Clear" (no sound, just COD4 music playing over top of it):
